SANTA CRUZ, Bolivia.— The director of the National Agrarian Reform Institute (INRA), Juan Carlos Rojas, said the reversal was ordered over three unproductive properties granted by the State to the family monasteries on the plains of Santa Cruz department..

Rojas explained that the three properties, totaling 13 184 hectares, return to state control. The State gave them early this decade free of charge. He said:

“Ownership of land without producing them is ground for reversal. The property passes to State ownership as public land for subsequent redistribution.”

This reversion is Evo Morales' election promise to landless Indians to give them the same. Furthermore, the reversion of land is part of a Bolivian government policy to identify unproductive land.

Those affected by the reversal of the 13,000 hectares issued no statement.
