UN calls for transparency and respect for the right to information in Bolivia

PLEBISCITE • UN in Bolivia today called on all political and social sectors to ensure transparency and the right to information in the pre-selection process of candidates for judicial office that will culminate in the popular vote on 16 October.

LA PAZ, Bolivia .— UN agencies considered important to care and ensure in all cases the "strict observance of the presumption of innocence, due process and fair trial", as it was recommended by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in her report of 2010.

United Nations urged Bolivia:

"Make every effort to make this process takes place under conditions that ensure and demonstrate transparency, based on a balanced assessment of the professional and moral merits of all applicants, and facilitate the access to information and participation in the same to civil society and the mass media.”
