Department of Santa Cruz increased agricultural production rising from 72% in 2005/2006 to 76.8% in 2008/2009.
Santa Cruz produced meat and dairy and poultry production, all essential items to feed the Bolivian population.
Recently we said that the government of Evo Morales would be forced to make concessions to the agricultural and agroindustrial bourgeoisie of Santa Cruz that until not long ago, was presented as the most recalcitrant right-wing opposition.
We did not wait long to test our hypothesis, because the “gasolinazo” (rising fuel liquids prices) decreed by the Government of MAS on Sunday December 26 revealed the concessions that Evo Morales was willing to make the agroindustrial bourgeoisie of Santa Cruz.
The Government offered to producers of corn, rice and wheat, the state acquisition of that output at a price greater than 10% of the domestic price. In contrast to the peasants in the Andean region did not include any specific and immediate measure.
The Government offered only two projects, investment of 300 thousand U.S. dollars per municipality for irrigation and the agricultural insurance.
